Years 11 & 12 SEDA Program




SPORTS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM


SEDA partners with the biggest sporting brands and organisations in Western Australia facilitating real life industry experiences and student opportunities. The Program integrates the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) and Vocational Education and Training (VET) where students are immersed in industry through unique inductions, community events and work placements.

This combined with our applied industry-based learning approach helps students acquire the skills to support future educational and employment pathways.


Year 11:
WACE Courses – General Level^

Certificate II in Sport and Recreation*
Authority Developed Workplace Learning

Year 12:
WACE Courses – General Level^

Certificate III in Sport and Recreation*+
School Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship

*In 2020, SEDA delivers and assesses, provides individual support services and manages the admissions process for these VET qualifications on behalf of Northern Metropolitan TAFE (RTO Provider: 52786). For Bunbury classes, students are enrolled with SEDA Group. These qualifications are recognised under the Australian Qualification Framework and lead to issuance of AQF Certification by Northern Metropolitan TAFE and SEDA Group. Providers are subject to change for 2021.

^ SEDA Group deliverers WACE on behalf of Lynwood Senior High School & Manea Senior College.

+ SEDA Group is approved to deliver publicly funded training under the Jobs and Skills WA Program. Individuals who are eligible under the Jobs and Skills WA Program and enrol into the SIS30115 Certificate III in Sport and Recreation as an School-based Trainee with SEDA Group; the WA state government will contribute to the cost of training services and individuals will not be charged a tuition fee. Eligibility is subject to sighting relevant evidence by a SEDA Group representative prior to enrolment and that there is availability in SEDA Group’s Contracted Programs of Study.

SEDA students experience a unique education pathway because of our relationships with several of Australia’s leading sporting organisations. Students are involved in industry experiences they will not find anywhere else. We develop Areas of Study and curriculum with our industry partners so that students develop the knowledge, skills and attributes of current industry professionals.
Through a tailored, individual approach known as “MyPLAN”, teachers will support students to develop these skills to set them on a pathway to success. Students will use the latest technology and web-based applications to learn, whilst developing transferable skills that will provide a head start across a wide range of industries.

Classrooms are located in local community settings at sport and recreation facilities, to maximise student learning and deliver industry-based experiences.

These venues are fully equipped with all the infrastructure required for a classroom setting, allowing students to complete theory-based learning as well as practical activities.

Eligibility

  • Students must be an Australia or New Zealand citizen or Australia Permanent Resident to be eligible for any of the SEDA programs
  • Western Australian students must successfully complete or have completed Year 10 or equivalent
  • Selection into our Sports Development Program is not dependent on sporting skills and students all ability levels may apply
  • Students who have already completed Year 11 may be able to enter directly into Year 12 level. Eligibility for this will determined at an interview
  • Unfortunately, students who are already completing or have completed Year 12 are no eligible to apply
  • Students who have a non-traditional or different schooling history should contact our admissions staff to determine eligibility for our programs

2021 Eligibility

  • Individuals must be born between 01/01/03 and 31/05/05

2022 Eligibility

  • Individuals must be born between 01/01/04 and 31/05/06

2023 Eligibility

  • Individuals must be born between 01/01/05 and 31/05/07

Please note that selection into SEDA’s programs is based on an online application and interview process. Students apply the year before they intend to commence the program for entry the following year (i.e. students intending to commence in Year 11 would begin their application while they are in Year 10 to start the following year).

Students attend SEDA five days a week, up to three days a week, students complete the classroom-based component of their qualifications. The other two days of the week focus on practical, and industry-based learning activities.

SEDA fees for Year 11 & 12 Sports Development Program in 2020 are set out below:

Year 11 & 12 Full Fee: $4,000*
Year 11 & 12 Concession Fee:
Concession card holders are entitled to the secondary assistance scheme.

* The above is the proposed fee for 2020. This may change for 2021.

What do the fees include:

  • WACE Course
  • Full Uniform
  • Industry Specific Coaching and Officiating Qualifications
  • Use of a Notebook Computer (contains all coursework, no books required for purchase)
No, all students leave their current school and attend the SEDA program full-time.
Students are responsible for sourcing their own work placement; however, SEDA will prepare students with key information and skills, and support students through the process of securing a placement. Year 11 students must complete their placement in the sport and recreation industry and Year 12 students may seek placements in other industries (eg. trade, retail) if they choose.
No, instead the program offers students entrance into further education via direct application to TAFEs and universities, including our education partners. Students and parents will receive information and support from SEDA throughout this process.
SEDA has partnership agreements with a number of universities and RTOs which guarantee our graduates entry into a range of courses.
Students travel to the program via public transport. The SEDA program aims to develop students’ independence, confidence and time management skills and independent travel is part of this self-development.
