Leadership in Action: SEDA College Students Rise to the Challenge in Term Three

Posted September 4, 2024 in SEDA Life

The SEDA College Student Leaders have continued to develop their leadership skills in Term Three. The Year 12 Ambassadors and Year 11 Leaders have been involved in group activities that allow them to put their skills to action and learn from others.

The Year 12 Ambassador group were given the opportunity to test themselves in an escape room at Escape Hunt in Fremantle. The students were divided into two groups and each had a different escape room to conquer. Both groups managed to solve the puzzle, albeit slightly after the allocated time, and managed to escape. The activity provided the Ambassadors with a chance to apply some their leadership skills while working as a team.

The Ambassadors have recently started planning the 2024 Year 12 Graduation to be held at Crown in November. The students play a massive role in the event, helping to plan the format of the night, creating the scripts and then hosting the entire event on the night. The Ambassadors will continue to work closely with Business Operations Manager, Callum Street, over the coming months to ensure that this year’s Graduation ceremony is the celebration that all Year 12s deserve.

The Year 11 Leaders travelled to Elizabeth Quay for The Amazing Race. The group was split into three teams and each team had to complete tasks in order to receive their next challenge. Some of the tasks included a scavenger hunt around the Barrack Street Jetty, eating Wheet-Bix as quickly as possible and creating an Elizabeth Quay promotional video. The Amazing Race required the leaders to use their teamwork skills and helped to reveal the predominant leadership styles of each of our leaders.

The Leaders were also involved in a workshop where they learnt a range of activities that would be suitable to run as MyDevelopment sessions. The students have now been challenged to lead, or support their class teacher in leading, a MyDevelopment activity with their class before the end of Term Three.

It’s been amazing to see our Year 11 and 12 students take on these leadership opportunities with such enthusiasm and teamwork. We’re excited to see where their leadership skills will take them next!
