Kara started working at SEDA College WA in 2019 as a teacher in the Fremantle Dockers Sports Development Program class. In 2024, Kara has transitioned into the Head of Senior School role at SEDA, taking on coaching and supporting of SEDA teaching staff along with additional support for students in and out of the classroom.

When questioned about her enduring passion for teaching at SEDA, Kara highlighted the daily impact she makes on students.

“It’s a very rewarding job. You’re working with the next generation of young people both in and out of the classroom to help them achieve their goals.”

During her time working at SEDA, Kara simultaneously played for the Fremantle Dockers AFLW team. Signed to the team for the 2017 season, Kara was also announced as the inaugural captain of the team. She held this role throughout nearly her full tenure at the club from 2017 – 2022, giving up captaincy in 2021.

Kara further demonstrated her aptitude for coaching in 2022 by assuming the dual role of player coach, overseeing the forward line. Her contributions were recognized when she was honored as a life member of the Fremantle Football Club.

Kara has achieved many accolades, playing 47 games for the Dockers throughout her time with the club. She was also nominated by her teammates for the AFL Players’ Most Valuable Player Award, and listed for the 2017 All-Australian team.

She has now returned to Fremantle Football Club as their AFLW team backline coach. She is one of four changes made to the Fremantle Dockers AFLW coaching panel.

“I took the job because I’m passionate about footy – but in particular female football,” Kara explained. “I love the opportunity to provide those currently in the game with my knowledge and understanding and make them [the players] the best they can be.”
