Staff Spotlight: Braydon Beckley's Journey From Student to Staff

Welcome to our “Staff Spotlight” series, where we highlight the incredible individuals who make SEDA College a special place to learn and grow.
Meet Braydon Beckley, a dedicated and passionate member of the SEDA College community. For the past three and a half years, Braydon has played a key role in the Perth Glory Program, helping students succeed and grow. Braydon’s connection to SEDA is personal, as he graduated from the same program in 2015. His most memorable moments, like the 2023 graduation day, are filled with the joy and pride of seeing his students achieve their dreams. Read on to learn more about Braydon’s story!
What is your name?
Braydon Beckley.
How long have you worked at SEDA and in what role?
I have worked at SEDA for 3 and a half years in the Perth Glory Program.
What has been your best experience or a memorable day at SEDA?
The most memorable day that I had at SEDA was 2023 graduation. I will never forget the students faces of excitement and relief, knowing they worked extremely hard and I had created a bond with each student.
What do you think sets SEDA apart?
The hands on/engaging experience that student get from the college and staff engaging with one another supporting personal growth.
What inspired you to become a teacher/your current role?
I graduated SEDA college in 2015 from the Perth Glory program. I wanted to provide young people the opportunity if not more that I had as a students and walk with them on their SEDA journey.
What and where have you previously worked?
I was a Baldivis Secondary College assisting with relief, until I was able to apply for SEDA which was my number one school to work at due to my experiences.
What was your first job and how did it go?
I worked at Bunnings Warehouse for 8 years in all areas of the store. It was a fantastic first job as I learnt many skills regarding electrical, trade, special orders and my absolute favourite outdoor leisure.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
I play soccer on the weekends to keep fit, I love going surfing and fishing.
What’s the weirdest excuse a student has given you for not completing their homework?
I had a student put their school bag in the washing machine due to their dog urinating on it, little did they know their laptop was in their bag.
Tell us a secret talent you have.
I can do a one handed clap.
What piece of advice do you wish all your students knew?
Always have a unique character like salt, its presence is not felt but it’s absence makes all things tasteless.
How do you approach challenges at work?
I will focus on the main point and navigate this by brainstorming options to which I can share with another staff member for guidance or reassurance.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
I have always wanted to fly.
What is one item you can’t live without?
Surfboard.
Who’s your role model and why?
My mother, she has always had a placid nature who has taught me not to panic or overthink when situations don’t go to plan. My mum has pushed my brother and I to become the people we are today. Coming from South Africa was very difficult at a young age and my mum kept us safe and provided me with a new chapter in life.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
Graduating university, this was an amazing moment in my life to achieve this knowing I can now create my mark in the world.
